ANGKOR PHOTO FESTIVAL
NOVEMBER 20-27, 2010
The closest luxury hotel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat, Le Méridien Angkor has partnered with the 2010 Angkor Photo Festival to support its mission of creating a two-way platform for encounters + exchanges between Asia and the rest of the world, while fostering the careers of young Asian photographers.
In addition to its involvement as a patron of the festival, Le Méridien Angkor will curate uniquely-tailored experiences for its guests staying over the festival dates, November 20-27, 2010. "Our aim is to allow travellers to not only experience ancient Angkor, but to come face-to-face with Siem Reap's contemporary cultural renaissance," said Le Méridien Angkor General Manager, Gregory Anderson. The once sleepy town of Siem Reap is now a hotbed of innovation, creativity, and culture, fuelled by its growing world music, culinary, and art scene.
The Angkor Photo Festival's 2010 program will present works photographed around the world through exhibitions and outdoor slideshows, while also highlighting emerging Southeast Asian photographers. For the whole week, the festival will host various events in different locations throughout Siem Reap. In this 6th edition of the festival, over 110 photographers will come together in Cambodia to preset their work, including 50 Asian photographers. Their works will be curated by internationally renowned photography figures Yumi Goto, Antoine d'Agata, and Françoise Callier.
Created in 2005, the Angkor Photo Festival is the first such event to be organized in Southeast Asia. Each year, and for a week, the festival showcases exhibitions and outdoor slideshows in Siem Reap. The temples of Angkor become a hub that draws both famous and passionate photographers from around the world in a spirit of creativity and sharing. The strong educational goals of the Angkor Photo Festival set it apart from other photography events. During their stay, famous photographers tutor the Angkor Photo Workshops for emerging Asian photographers and the festival also presents its outreach program, the Anjali Children's Photo Workshops.
