Le Méridien Angkor donated 700 bottles of drinking water to the Giant Puppet Project.

Siem Reap, Cambodia, Saturday, February 23 2013 at 11:30 AM – Le Méridien Angkor donated 700 bottles of drinking  water to help keep the children and Artists healthy and hydrated during the parade tonight to the Giant Puppet Project.

The Giant Puppet Project is a local children’s community arts project, the largest of its kind in Siem Reap, providing a creative platform for disadvantaged children to foster and promote self expression and confidence through art.

Puppets are created to include unique educational, cultural or ecological themes such as road safety, endangered species, hygiene, local cultural appreciation and environmental awareness.  The giant creations are produced through fun and creative workshops, charging and encouraging the imagination of the children.

Children under 15 make up one third of Cambodia’s entire population. Widespread poverty exists; education, health and the environment are key issues for the sustainable growth of the country.  Every year The Giant Puppet Project offers over 500 children the opportunity to digest these all-important issues through a jovial artistic medium.

About Le Méridien

Le Méridien, the Paris-born hotel brand currently represented by 100 properties in 50 countries, was acquired by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) in November 2005. Since then, Le Méridien has gone through a brand re-launch, which included a large scale hotels product consolidation as well as redefining its brand strategy. By appointing a full-time Cultural Curator – French arts-provocateur Jérôme Sans – Le Méridien transformed numerous guest touch points, thus brining unique and interactive experiences to its guests.  With close to 80 of its properties located in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, Le Méridien provides a strong international complement to Starwood’s primarily North American holdings. Plans call for dynamic expansion of Le Méridien hotels and resorts within the next five years, concentrating in the U.S., Latin America, and Asia-Pacific, including destinations such as India, Indonesia, Thailand and China.  Le Méridien recently opened new hotels in Bali, Koh Samui, Philadelphia, Xiamen, Chongqing Nan’an and Qingdao (China), Taipei and Coimbatore (India).
